Hunting preserve's angry neighbor files lawsuit
By Randy McNutt
The Cincinnati Enquirer
MILFORD TOWNSHIP Early next year, a Milford Township homeowner is expected to go to trial in Butler County Common Pleas Court against the owner of a commercial hunting preserve.
Charles Keller and his brother, Christopher Keller, operate the Ridge Wind Quail Farm next to the home of Mike Loriz on Oxford-Middletown Road.
Unbelievably, the Butler County zoning board gave the approval to do this, said Mr. Loriz, who lives on 45 acres near Collinsville. It's astonishing. We have 50 houses in the neighbor hood. Everybody who has heard about this is amazed.
Mr. Loriz filed suit six months ago against the Kellers, the National Shoot to Retrieve Association, Butler County's zoning board and the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Both agencies issued licenses to to the Kellers to operate a commercial hunting preserve, Mr. Loriz said.
Approval for the range to hunt quail, rabbit, deer and other game came in July from the zoning board.
A neighbor has found a hunting arrow in her barn, Mr. Loriz said. It missed its target. We've had hunters walk up to our fence line, and I have two young children. This goes on 300 feet from our house.
Mr. Loriz said he expects his attorney to ask for a multimillion claim.
The Kellers could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Butler County zoning officials declined comment and Mike Juengling, the county's director of planning, building and zoning, was unavailable.
