By Rebecca Billman
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Michael J. O'Neill, a retired FBI special agent in Cincinnati and pilot for Air Carriers Inc. in Bessemer, Ala., died Dec. 1 in a plane crash there.
He was flying the plane that went down with another Air Carriers employee on board. Both were killed. Mr. O'Neill attempted to make radio contact but the cause of the crash has not been determined, said his wife, Jacqueline Cranert O'Neill.
Mr. O'Neill, 62, moved to Chelsea, Ala., from Cincinnati after retiring from the FBI in 1987. He had worked for the agency for 20 years in several cities, including Quantico, Va., where he trained new agents. He brought his family to Cincinnati after being transferred here in 1979.
A devout Catholic, he served as lector and distributor and sang in the choir in several parishes. He moved to Alabama to fly for a mission there.
He was a wonderful person who was very caring and always reaching out to people, his wife said. Whatever he did he just put his whole self into it.
Mr. O'Neill was a member of Southern Gateway Chorus..
In addition to Jacqueline, his wife of 38 years, survivors include two sons, Michael O'Neill of Fort Myers, Fla., and Timothy O'Neill of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Caroline Seta of Bridgetown, Christa O'Neill of Miami Heights and Kiera O'Neill of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Timothy J. O'Neill of Dayton; two sisters, Kathleen M. O'Neill of Colerain Township and Maryanne O'Neill of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.
