Parking lot fight leads to shooting

By David Eck
Enquirer Contributor

FAIRFIELD — A 37-year-old Colorado man is in University Hospital suffering from two gunshot wounds, and a Murfreesboro, Tenn. man is facing charges after a shooting early Monday in the parking lot of the Suburban Lodge at 6785 Dixie Highway.

James A. Dedrew of Aurora, Colo., was in good condition after being shot in the back and shoulder, Fairfield Police Lt. Ken Colburn said.

Daniel Herbert Coleman, 45, has been charged with felonious assault, and misdemeanor charges of discharging weapons and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. He is in the Butler County jail and will be arraigned in Fairfield Municipal Court today.

About 5:30 a.m. Monday, Mr. Coleman blocked Mr. Dedrew's vehicle with his own. The two then had an altercation, with Mr. Coleman allegedly firing three shots from a .45-caliber handgun, two of which struck Mr. Dedrew, Lt. Colburn said.

Mr. Coleman told police dispatchers he shot Mr. Dedrew because the man attacked him.

In another Fairfield shooting, Marcus Hayes turned himself in on Sunday. He's accused of shooting his wife and her friend Thursday. Mr. Hayes is charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count each of aggravated burglary, domestic violence and violating a protection order.
