Scott Shively, Q102 radio personality, dies

By Rebecca Billman and John Kiesewetter
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Scott Shively, former newsman and on-air personality for WKRQ-FM's Q102 Morning Zoo, died Monday of a heart attack in Nashville, Tenn.

        The Cincinnati native was 42.

About 18 months ago, he left Cincinnati and become an account executive with ITC DeltaCom, an information technology company in Nashville.

He had just been back in town Sunday to take his sons to the Cincinnati Bengals game at Paul Brown Stadium.

Mr. Shively worked at WKRQ-FM (101.9) in the mid-1980s. He was also an administrator and on-air personality for the TrafficWatch radio traffic and news service.

“He was an integral part of the Q102 Morning Zoo,” said Chris O'Brien, who co-hosted the popular morning show with Jim Fox in the 1980s.

“He did a great job for us. We did a lot of things together — remotes from Disney World, the Statue of Liberty renovation in 1986 and the Grammy Awards from New York,” said Mr. O'Brien, now morning DJ at WGRR-FM (103.5).

Mr. Shively graduated from American High School in Singapore, where the family moved when his father, an employee of Cincinnati Milacron, was transferred there.

He returned home to attend the College-Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1981.

In addition to WKRQ, he worked for WKRC-AM (550) and WRRM-FM (98.5).

Survivors include his wife, Jody; three sons, Matthew, 14, Michael, 8, and Jack, 5; his parents, Don and Jean Shively of Symmes Township; and a sister, Susanne Halmi of Anderson Township.

        Service arrangements are pending.
