Teacher, 3 students caught in drug net

By Dave Eck
Enquirer Contributor

UNION TOWNSHIP — An instructor at Glen Este High School has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after a small amount of marijuana was allegedly found in his car during a police drug sweep at the campus Friday morning.

Charles Mikesell, 31, of Mount Washington was charged with minor misdemeanor drug abuse for possession of marijuana, township Police Lt. Mark Griffith said. The marijuana was found during a random sweep of the Clermont County school.

Three students also are facing minor misdemeanor drug charges in connection with the sweep.

Glen Este senior Lindsey Vincent, 18, of Union Township was charged with drug abuse after a small amount of marijuana was found in her school locker. Two 17-year-old male students were charged with possession of cigarettes, and one was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a pipe was found in his car. The cigarettes were found in the boys' cars, Lt. Griffith said.

Mr. Mikesell and Ms. Vincent were issued citations and released. Both juveniles were cited and released to the custody of their parents.

Glen Este High School administrators could not be reached for comment on any punishment the students might face from the school.

The sweep began about 9:30 a.m. and lasted several hours, police said. Drug-sniffing dogs checked school lockers and vehicles parked on school property.

Mr. Mikesell is a full-time employee of the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development, but is assigned to teach a marketing education satellite program at Glen Este, said Jean Ciancio, public relations coordinator at Great Oaks. He has been employed at Great Oaks since 1997 and has been assigned to Glen Este his entire tenure.

Lt. Griffith said Mr. Mikesell might also be an assistant coach at Glen Este, but it was not known for what sport. Great Oaks officials had no knowledge of any supplemental work Mr. Mikesell might have been doing at the school, and Glen Este High administrators did not immediately return a phone call.

Mr. Mikesell could not be reached for comment.
