Mariemont grad West Point leader

        Cadet John Councill IV is serving as regimental command sergeant major, achieving one of the highest positions in the cadet chain-of-command at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He was named to the position as a result of his superior academic and military performance as a cadet.

        Cadet Councill, a graduate of Mariemont High School, is a gold wreath recipient at the academy, maintaining a greater than 3.0 grade point average in academic, military and physical programs at West Point. He is the son of Diane and John Councill of Hyde Park.

Trustee honored

               Deerfield Township Trustee Barbara Wilkens Reed was inducted into the First Ladies' Club Women's Hall of Fame. The award was part of the Salute to Women in Politics, sponsored by the Warren County Republican Women's Club.

        Ms. Wilkens Reed is being inducted as the first woman trustee in Deerfield Township.

Scholars listed

               The College Board recognizes exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Examinations. Only about 13 percent of the more than 840,000 students who took the examinations were named AP Scholars.

        The exams, which high school students take in May after completing challenging college-level courses, are graded on a 5-point scale, with 5 as the highest. Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement or both for grades of 3 or higher.

        The following students at St. Xavier High School qualified as AP Scholars by completing 3 or more exams with grades of 3 or higher:
