Son says he killed father who threatened to kill family
The Associated Press
WILLIAMSBURG A 39-year-old man was shot to death at his home Friday night by his son, who told authorities his father had threatened to kill several people.
Danny Ray Rountree was pronounced dead at the scene at 8 p.m., Whitley County Coroner Jim Paul said on Saturday.
Jason Rountree, 18, said he shot his father in self-defense, Mr. Paul said.
The Whitley County Sheriff's Department, which investigated the shooting, could provide no information. A dispatcher on duty said no one was available to provide details.
Jason Rountree told police that his father was acting in a belligerent manner, threatening his family by shooting a 9 mm pistol three times in his mobile home. His son tried to calm him, Mr. Paul said.
Danny Rountree threw the handgun to his son but then took a shotgun and stepped onto the porch and shot toward a vehicle. He threatened to kill everyone at the home, including his wife, Arlene, his son and his son's fiancee, Mr. Paul said. Jason Rountree then shot his dad about seven times.
Jason Rountree has not been charged, but the case will be submitted to the grand jury.
