Stories, photos sought for Mason history book

MASON — Residents are being asked to contribute stories and pictures for a memory book about this once-sleepy farming community.

A copy of the book, which will sell for $5, will be placed in the time capsule for the new Mason Municipal Center scheduled to open by fall 2002.

“They can be from long ago or they can be from 10 years ago. It doesn't matter. We're interested in all eras,” Mason spokeswoman Jennifer Trepal said. “We would like people to write their own stories, if possible.”

The proceeds from the book will go to the Mason Veterans Memorial and the Mason Historical Society.

        Entries are due Feb. 1.

“It's an opportunity for the residents to become involved in the new municipal center and the activities that will surround the opening of it,” Mrs. Trepal said.

        Donations are coming in already.

Ruthann Carr said she decided to donate memorabilia — including pictures of her late father's medical practice and the family's first home in Mason — because it's important to have memories.

“Mason has grown so much,” the 36-year-old veterinarian said. “I'm like one of the few people my age that I meet in Mason that actually grew up in Mason. There's a whole lot of thirty-something young people with families moving into Mason. Most of them are new to the area.”

This fast-growing Warren County city, adding population at Ohio's second-fastest rate, has more than 22,000 people.
