Potato state creates world-class vodka
By Chuck Martin
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Why shouldn't the state that turns out the best french fries also make one of the best vodkas?
Distilled in Rigby, Idaho, from the best potatoes and pure Rocky Mountain water, Teton Glacier Potato Vodka was rated the best American vodka and one of the four best vodkas (out of 68) by the Beverage Tasting Institute.
The Russians and Europeans distill most of their vodka from grain, but hooch-makers also have used spuds for centuries to create the clear, potent alcohol. Somehow, it seems fitting a premium American potato vodka comes from the Land of McDonald's fries.
Frankly, some of us have difficulty tasting the difference between a great and not-so great vodka. But the Teton is smooth and soft, with little after-taste and ample viscosity. Tastes like vodka, not potatoes.
So here's another way to show your patriotism: Sip American vodka.
Teton Glacier Potato Vodka is available in special 750 ml glass decanters for about $24.95.
