Xavier's David West, Kentucky's Tayshaun Prince and Indiana's Jared Jeffries are among the 30 midseason candidates for the John R. Wooden Award to be given April7 to the nation's top player.

The Wooden Award Midseason Committee determined the 30 candidates based on individual performance and team records thus far in the season. The committee had announced a list of 50 candidates in preseason.

The 10-player Wooden Award All-American team will be announced March 26, and the Wooden Award Trophy will be given April 7 to the player chosen as the nation's best.
       KNIGHT SETTLES:

Bob Knight reached a settlement with a hunting buddy who accused the Texas Tech basketball coach of pressuring him to lie about a 1999 hunting accident.

Attorneys declined to release details of the agreement.

Thomas Mikunda claimed Knight coerced him into backing his version of the accident to avoid problems while coach at Indiana. The Hall of Fame coach spent 29 years at Indiana before being fired in 2000.
