ATLANTA — Ray Ferraro scored his 400th career goal and rookies Ilya Kovalchuk and Dany Heatley added two goals each as the Atlanta Thrashers beat the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 on Friday.

Ferraro scored at 16:10 of the second period, 11 seconds after Kovalchuk had scored, to become the 66th NHL player to reach 400 goals.

Brian McCabe scored two goals for the Maple Leafs, who lost their second straight game, and Mats Sundin scored his 20th goal, giving him eight straight seasons of 20 or more, third-best in club history.

Mikael Renberg also scored for Toronto.

        Bruins 7, Panthers 1

SUNRISE, Fla. — Mike Knuble, Glen Murray and Bill Guerin each scored two goals and Joe Thornton had five assists as Boston defeated Florida.

Boston, facing former coach Mike Keenan for the first time since he joined the Panthers, extended its winning streak to four games.

The game included 118 minutes in penalties, more than 100 in the third period and 52 after Rob Zamuner scored the Bruins' seventh goal with 6:40 left in the third.

Thornton's five assists were a career high, and the line of Knuble, Thornton and Murray, who also had three assists, accounted for 13 points.

        Olli Jokinen scored for Florida.

        Rangers 5, Sharks 3

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Eric Lindros got an assist, but the concussion-prone superstar didn't play the final two periods after a hard hit as New York beat San Jose.

Theo Fleury, the Rangers' leading scorer, got a match penalty in the first period and captain Mark Messier sat out his fourth straight game with several nagging injuries, but the Rangers still got goals from Vladimir Malakhov, Mikael Samuelsson, Radek Dvorak, Manny Malhotra and Sandy McCarthy.

Adam Graves, Matt Bradley and Stephane Matteau scored for San Jose.

        Coyotes 4, Flyers 2

PHOENIX — Daniel Briere scored a pair of power-play goals as Phoenix beat Philadelphia, snapping a three-game losing streak and ending the Flyers' four-game winning streak.

For Jeremy Roenick, the Coyotes' victory spoiled his return to Phoenix. Roenick played five seasons with the Coyotes before signing as a free agent in the off-season with Philadelphia.

The loss was the first on the road for the Flyers in seven games (5-1-1).

Michal Handzus and Brad May also scored for the Coyotes.

Mark Recchi tallied both Flyers' goals.

        Oilers 3, Wild 2

EDMONTON, Alberta — Mike Comrie scored at 15:19 of the third period to lift Edmonton over Minnesota.

Comrie has five goals in the Oilers' last six games.

Mike Grier and Ethan Moreau also scored for Edmonton, and backup goalie Jussi Markkanen stopped 25 shots for his third win in as many starts.

Minnesota's Andrew Brunette tied it 2-2 at 11:54 of the third. Aaron Gavey also scored for the Wild.

        Capitals 3, Stars 2, OT

DALLAS — Ken Klee scored with 2:57 left in overtime as Washington beat Dallas to snap a four-game winless streak.

Benoit Hogue and Jon Sim scored for Dallas.

Jaromir Jagr and Dmitri Khristich had Washington's goals.

        Blues 3, Canadiens 0

ST. LOUIS — Fred Brathwaite stopped 24 shots to lead St. Louis past Montreal.

The shutout is Brathwaite's second this season and 13th in his seven-year career. He also blanked Los Angeles on Dec. 8.

Bryce Salvador, Jamal Mayers and Scott Young scored.
