Recreation notes - Tristate


Walkers head for county park

        WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP — The American Walkers Association will hold two walks Sundayat Miami Whitewater Forest on West Road. An eight-mile walk begins at 8 a.m., followed by a four-mile event at 2:30 p.m. Pets are not allowed. Information: 782-8363.

        New Year's Day run

        FORT THOMAS — The 10th annual Frostbite Five 5-kilometer run and walk is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Campbell County YMCA, 1437 S. Fort Thomas Ave.

        Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. and is $15 or $22 with a T-shirt. Call (859) 781-1814.

        Teen night
       

        SPRINGDALE — “Teen Night at the Rec” is 9-11 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Springdale Community Center on Lawnview Avenue.

        The event is for youths 12-17 and includes volleyball, wallyball, basketball, pool, table tennis, Foosball and air hockey.

        Cost is free to center members and $1.25 for guests. Information: 346-3910.

        Tennis leagues
       

        SYMMES TOWNSHIP — A senior mixed doubles tennis league is forming at Harper's Point Racquet Club, 8675 E. Kemper Road.

        Cost is $8 per person; club membership is not required.

        Also, Silver Sneakers, a low-impact aerobics class for people age 50 and over, will be held Tuesdays.

        Cost is $5 per person. Information: 489-9700.

        League sign-ups

        Registrations are being taken until Jan. 4 for Cincinnati Recreation Commission youth basketball and 6-player women's volleyball leagues.

        There are openings for six basketball leagues: 16-under, 15-under, 14-under, 13-under, 12-under and 11-under. Cost is $200 per team. Women's volleyball costs $265 per team.

Girls softball
               The Miami Valley Xpress, an under-14 select girls fast-pitch softball team, needs one or two players for the 2002 season. Information: 863-7447.

        Indoor basketball

        A basketball league for children ages 4-8 begins Jan. 12 at Western Sports Mall, 2323 Ferguson Road in Westwood.

        Cost is $50 per child, and the registration deadline is Sunday. 451-4900.
