Four men were shot two fatally in four separate incidents over the weekend in Cincinnati, driving up the city's already 14-year-high homicide rate.
Three shootings took place during a six-hour period Saturday. The fourth shooting was late Sunday afternoon on Prospect Place in Avondale.
No arrests had been made, and Cincinnati police said Sunday the shootings do not appear to be related.
Two of the shootings Saturday were in Over-the-Rhine, and another was in Westwood. Two Westwood men died.
A man who was shot in the elbow Saturday was treated at University Hospital and released.
Sunday, a male was shot in the shoulder about 5:50 p.m. in the 500 block of Prospect Place. He was found on the front porch of a residence. His condition was not available Sunday night.
The gunman, described as in his 20s, carrying a silver handgun and wearing a black ski mask and all-black clothing, fled the scene in a blue convertible.
The two fatalities brought the city's number of homicides to 63 for the year the highest since 1987.
We have hit rock bottom, said Joe Tucker, owner of Tucker's Restaurant on Vine Street for 22 years and a Westwood native. Everybody is on edge now, because we never know when the next shooting is going to happen. A lot of us are losing a lot of money over this and you can only hang on so long. We have to get all the guns out of here.
Calvin Davis, 30, was shot at 11:25 p.m. Saturday outside 1344 Vine St. . He was pronounced dead just after midnight at University Hospital.
The gunman was described as black, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, with a moustache and goatee. He wore a dark waist-length coat and dark pants.
Antonio Crutcher, 30, was shot several times at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday inside and outside 2824 West Knolls Lane, a multifamily building, police said. He was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m. at University Hospital.
Police were looking for a black male, late 20s to early 30s, with a medium build and dark complex ion. Carrying a gun, he ran into nearby woods. He was wearing a beige suede coat with a matching fur-trimmed hat.
I'm going to have to move, because I can't take this no longer, said Janice Long, 43, who lives in one of the building's four apartments with her three children.
Five gunshots jarred her from her bed, she said, and sent her scrambling to check on her sleeping children.
Earlier Saturday, Maurice Pitts, 22, of Mount Auburn was shot in the elbow at 6:15 p.m. at 1649 Vine St. He was treated at University Hospital and released. The suspect is described as a 14-to-16-year-old black male who goes by the nickname ""Willie.
