Staying in

TV picks: If it's New Year's Eve, it must be time for Dick Clark, right? Right. He's here with an avalanche of music. In the first hour, Clark reviews 2001 in music with clips from Britney Spears, Madonna, Dave Matthews, Destiny's Child, Elton John and Aerosmith. The rest of the night follows the formula with a party in Los Angeles and Mr. Clark on Times Square. New Year's Rockin' Eve, 10 p.m., Channel 9.

What's in stores today

Ah, something to make your life easier the day of the big game, when you just gotta write “Go team” on your car's windows but don't want to use shoe polish or markers. Spirit 3-D Foam is a spray-on in several colors that won't harm car paint or other surfaces. All you do is spray on your message, let it dry and you're finished. When the game's over or your friends are no longer “Just married,” peel it off. It's $3.97 at Wal-Mart.

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: Encore Singles pairs off for a New Year's Day Dance Party, 8 p.m. Tuesday, Mariner's Inn, 7967 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, West Chester Township, $9. 557-5133.

48 hours out: The all-female power rock quartet Kittie cranks up the amps and shows you what power rock really means. 8 p.m. Wednesday, Bogart's, 2621 Vine St., Corryville, $12.50. 562-4949.

72 hours 'til Thurday: The new Barnes & Noble at Newport on the Levee has story time and snacks plus a reading of Lui and the Sea Moon, 11 a.m., free. (859) 581-2000.
