GOP pioneer Warriner dies
The Associated Press
LOUISVILLE Josephine Warriner, the first Republican woman to seek state office and widow of former state Sen. Ed Warriner, died Monday. She was 92.
Ms. Warriner and her husband both ran for office in 1959, when they lived in Albany.
Josephine Warriner was not elected in her run for auditor, but served on the Republican State Central Committee as a clerk for the Kentucky State Senate and a regional manager for one of John Sherman Cooper's successful U.S. Senate campaigns.
Ms. Warriner was also the former president of the Albany Women's Club and regional governor of the Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs.
After her husband died, Ms. Warriner moved to Louisville and became a wage-and-hour investigator for the Kentucky Department of Labor and a clerk for the Jefferson County Quarterly Court.
Ms. Warriner is survived by four children, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
