New Miami's top cop gets nod as mayor breaks tie vote
The Cincinnati Enquirer
NEW MIAMI The village's acting police chief was named chief Thursday, following eight months of political battles over his appointment.
After Village Council's vote ended in a 3-3 tie, Mayor Ronald Williams cast the tie-breaking vote to designate Duane Pelfrey as chief.
Mr. Pelfrey had been acting chief since May, following the resignation of Dan Schultz.
Longtime Councilwomen Edith Cook and Patricia Lipscomb opposed Mr. Pelfrey's appointment, as did newcomer Katherine Rumph-Butler.
Krystal Murray, who was appointed to council in May then elected in November, was joined by newcomers Scott Dell and Bill Flynn in voting for Mr. Pelfrey.
Mr. Dell also was named vice mayor, following another tie-breaker vote by the mayor.
