Top 5 disappointing teams

        1. Temple. The Owls, ranked No. 16 in the preseason, typically start slow because of a tough schedule but nobody would have expected a 3-8 record with six consecutive losses, including a couple at home to DePaul and Penn.

        2. Saint Joseph's. Ranked No. 10 in the preseason and with one of the nation's top backcourts (Jameer Nelson, Marvin O'Connor), the Hawks are 6-4 and received just five voting points in the most recent Associated Press poll. They have lost to Eastern Washington, Georgia State and North Carolina.

        3. North Carolina. Well, this is old news, really. The Tar Heels were ranked 19th in the preseason but quickly fell out of the poll after season-opening losses to Davidson, Hampton and Indiana. They are 5-5 and an afterthought in college basketball right now. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

        4. Memphis. The Tigers, No. 12 in the preseason, are 10-4 and still trying to figure out whether their offense should run through freshman sensation Dajuan Wagner or steady senior Kelly Wise. They should be OK in the long run.

        5. Texas. Injuries haunt the 8-4 Longhorns, who lost top scorer Chris Owens for the season with a knee injury. Texas may not be able to fulfill its lofty expectations because of such misfortune.
