Turfway series for 3-year-olds starts today
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Turfway Park's 3-year-old series, which culminates March 23 with the 31st running of Lane's End Spiral Stakes, kicks off today with the $50,000 Turfway Prevue Stakes. The 6 1/2-furlong race will be the 10th of 12 live races. First post is 1:10p.m.
Leading the field of newly turned sophomores is Stonecrest Farm's Perfect Drift, who has been installed as the 3-1 morning line favorite. The Murray Johnson-trained Dynaformer colt enters the race off an impressive gate-to-wire maiden victory at Turfway Dec.19. Jockey Tony D'Amico, who is also the regular rider for leading 3-year-olds Repent and Harlan's Holiday, has the mount.
Record-setting apprentice Kris Prather, who recently returned from an injury, will ride Frankie R's Winner, a son of 1996 Jim Beam Stakes winner Roar, and attempt to win the Prevue for the second consecutive year. She won the last Prevue aboard Daring Pegasus when the race was for 2-year-olds in December.
Perennial leading trainer Bernie Flint will send out the coupled entry of World Champion and L X Express.
The field, from the rail, with jockey and odds: Perfect Drift, D'Amico, 3-1; Saint Golddigger, Rhonda Collins, 15-1; Frankie R's Winner, Prather, 7-2; Getem Frank, Jesse Campbell, 20-1; Thunder On Land, Brian Peck, 10-1; World Champion, Jose Martinez Jr., 4-1; Spicey Marcloud, Fabio Arguello, 9-2; Career Best, Dean Kutz, 30-1; Private Horde, Axel Dasilva, 7-2; L X Express, James Lopez, 4-1.
