Who's hot and who's not

Who's Hot

        • Bob Knight: Well sure, he's got his flaws. Don't we all? Still, the former Indiana coach has his Texas Tech team on a roll with an 11-1 start and a season on the brink (did we really say that?) of a top-25 ranking.

        • University of Miami: That would be the Miami that's in Florida, not Oxford. The Hurricanes' football team won the national championship Thursday night and finished 12-0. The basketball team is 14-0 and ranked No. 21. Nice. Very nice.

        • Maryland: You've got to give it up to the Terps for their 84-game non-conference winning streak at Cole Field House -- the longest in the country. The last time Maryland lost at home? Dec. 12, 1989 vs. Coppin State. This is the school's last season in Cole, too.

Who's Not

        • Hooter the Owl: Temple's mascot, that's whoooo. Nice job getting tech'd and tossed in the Owls' 68-62 loss to Penn. That's hard to do. The Saint Joseph's Hawk you're not.

        • Georgetown: The Hoyas finally played some real teams (meaning those without RPIs higher than 200) and have lost three straight to No. 4 Virginia, No. 14 UCLA and No. 21 Miami. Hard to believe Bethune-Cookman and Morgan State didn't prepare G'town for the heavyweights.

        • Indiana coach Mike Davis: He criticizes former IU coach Bob Knight in court and blasts the officials off the court after a loss to Butler (and gets fined $10,000 by the Big Ten) all in one week.
