Congrats

Two privates pass basic

The following privates have graduated from the Army's basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.:

Justin Neely, a graduate of Colerain High School and son of Denise Evers of Clifton Heights; and Dana Gabriel, graduate of Winton Woods High School and daughter of Susan and Robert Gabriel of Forest Park.

Sergeant graduates

Police Sgt. Paul Lindenschmidt has graduated from the Police Executive Leadership College. The program, sponsored by the Law Enforcement Foundation Inc., is composed of 105 classroom hours over a three-week period.

Some of the activities covered in the program include situational leadership, a personal leadership assessment, ethics, effective written communication, team de velopment and strategic leadership. Sgt. Lindenschmidt is the fourth member of the Mason Police Department to complete the program.

McAuley scholars

The College Board recognizes exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Examinations. Only about 13 percent of the more than 840,000 students who took the examinations were named AP Scholars.

The exams, which high school students take in May after completing challenging college-level courses, are graded on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest. Most of the nation's colleges and universities award credit, advanced placement, or both for grades of 3 or higher.

The following from McAuley High School qualified as AP Scholars with Distinction by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams: Leah Hollstegge, Margaret Redmond, Emily Tunnat and Sarah Zureick.

Margot Brehm, Jennifer Ernst, Ashley Mahler, Elizabeth Metz and Gabrielle Torbeck qualified as AP Scholars with Honor by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.

The following qualified as AP Scholars by completing 3 or more exams with grades of 3 or higher: Emily Busam, Kimberlee Erdman, Kathryn Fulks, Jody Haubner, Colleen Hughes, Emily Jordan, Lisa Kampschmidt, Sarah Kuhns, Nicole Miller, Holly Reilman, Julie Tiemeier and Allison Weber.
