Camry loses status as best-selling car

Toyota's North American production was down last year from 2000.
Toyota built 1.08 million cars and trucks in North America last year, down from 1.10 million built in 2000.
The Camry lost the title as best-selling car to the Marysville, Ohio-built Honda Accord, but Camry production at Toyota's Georgetown, Ky., plant increased to 271,961 from 251,767 in 2000.
Total Georgetown production, however, declined to 446,082 from 495,582 due to lower assembly of the Avalon sedan and Sienna minivan.
Production of the Tundra pickup and Sequoia SUV at the Princeton, Ind., truck plant increased to 169,450 units, up from 129,724 in 2000.
Production of Tacoma pickups and Corolla sedans at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., Toyota's California joint venture with General Motors Corp., increased to 305,669 from 294,093 a year earlier.
Production of Corollas and Camry Solaras at Toyota's Cambridge, Ontario plant declined to 166,131 from 183,739 a year ago. Toyota said U.S. sales in 2001 were a record 1.7 million units, up 7.5 percent from a year earlier.
