Accident at plant severs man's leg
The Cincinnati Enquirer
HAMILTON A 38-year-old man was in serious condition after his leg was severed in an industrial accident Wednesday.
Melvin Williams was recuperating at University Hospital, where he was flown by medical helicopter after an 8 a.m. incident at JacksonLea Inc. 3440 Symmes Road.
Doctors had tried to reattach the leg, emergency crews said, but hospital spokeswoman Pat Samson said she was unable to say whether that attempt succeeded.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration was investigating, said Dennis Collins, assistant area director.
Mr. Collins said Mr. Williams had been caught in an augur at the company, which makes abrasives.
A message seeking comment from JacksonLea was not immediately returned.
