BOSTON Bill Guerin scored his team-leading 24th goal and added two assists as the Boston Bruins beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-0 on Thursday night for their third straight victory.
Glen Murray and Jozef Stumpel, both former Kings, combined for four points for the Bruins, while Boston snapped a six-game winless streak against Los Angeles.
The Kings were coming off an impressive three-game road sweep against the New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and New York Rangers, but appeared tired playing their fourth game in six nights.
Martin Lapointe and Guerin scored to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Lapointe has only three goals in the last two months and ended a 15-game goal-scoring drought.
Penguins 2, Sabres 0
BUFFALO, N.Y. Johan Hedberg stopped 36 shots as the Pittsburgh Penguins prepared to welcome back Mario Lemieux with a rare road win.
Stephane Richer's goal 46 seconds into the game stood up as the game-winner as the Penguins snapped a five-game road winless streak (0-3-2), and won for only the third time in their last 14 games.
Robert Lang sealed the victory, scoring with 1:20 left, while Hedberg recorded his fifth shutout of the season.
Lemieux, the Penguins captain and owner, has missed 24 games since undergoing hip surgery. He is expected to return Saturday.
Flyers 3, Devils 2
PHILADELPHIA Jiri Dopita and Keith Primeau scored within a 40-second span of the second period as the Flyers won their fifth straight at home.
Donald Brashear also scored for the Flyers, who increased their Atlantic Division lead to four points over the idle New York Rangers, who visit Philadelphia on Saturday. Roman Cechmanek, signed to a three-year-contract extension earlier in the day, had 34 saves for the Flyers.
Canadiens 4, Islanders 0
MONTREAL Oleg Petrov and Mike Ribeiro scored first period power-play goals and Jose Theodore stopped 26 shots to lead Montreal.
Canadiens defenseman Patrick Traverse was taken to a hospital with a head injury after being checked into the boards by Michael Peca with 6:06 remaining in the second period.
After he was immobilized, taken from the ice on a stretcher and moved to a hospital, a team spokesman said Traverse was conscious and able to move his arms and legs.
Wild 2, Predators 2, OT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Sergei Zholtok scored twice in the second period as Minnesota skated to a tie against the Predators.
The Predators scored their goals in the second period, too, with Denis Arkhipov bringing Nashhville even at 1-all at 15:25, and Greg Johnson evening the score again at 16:46.
Blackhawks 2, Blue Jackets 1
CHICAGO Eric Daze and Steve Dubinsky scored and Steve Passmore stopped 20 shots for the Blackhawks.
Dubinsky, recalled earlier Thursday from Milwaukee of the AHL, snapped a 1-1 tie with 6:46 left in the second period.
Michael Nylander had two assists for Chicago, which has won seven of its last eight games. Passmore, making just his sixth start of the season, earned his second win.
