Congrats
Vet students earn scholarships
Local students attending the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine have received the following scholarships:
The A.G. Madden/Cincinnati Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship: Richard Coleman,a senior from Fairfield, who has a special interest in small animal medicine and surgery; Kelly Liming, a senior from Felicity, who is focusing on large animal medicine; Jeffrey Fink of Blue Ash; and Bryan MaNabb, a junior from Pierce Township, with a specialty in equine medicine. He is president of his veterinary class and vice president of the Christian Veterinary Fellowship.
The Cincinnati Kennel Club Scholarship: Elizabeth Bohnlein, a sophomore from Forest Park, with special interests in preventive medicine, canine behavior and pet owner education.
Nursing leader
Gail McCain of Loveland was honored with the Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award at the College of Mount St. Joseph's Leadership in Nursing Awards.
Dr. McCain, associate dean for community affairs at the Francis Pane Bolen School of Nursing Care at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, is the former assistant vice president of patient services and research at Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Debaters triumph
The Middletown High School Debate Team posted victories at competition at Centerville High School.
Juniors Chris Griesinger and Billy Coffing placed first in duo interpretation competition. Junior Kaitlin Uppstrom placed third in the prose and poetry competition.
Mr. Griesinger and Mr. Coffing also placed fourth in duo interpretation at Princeton High School's Speech Tournament.
Passing basic
The following privates have graduated from the Army's basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.:
Michael Melton, the son of Susan Melton of Mount Carmel; Lawrence Mehn, a graduate of Anderson Township and son of Marlene and John Mehn of Mount Washington; Richard Hodges,son of Beverly Hodges of West Chester Township and Michael Hodges of Colerain Township; and Dante Eiland, graduate of Western Hills High School and son of Ruby Eiland of Westwood.
