Helpers keep busy schedule
Give Back Cincinnati, a non-profit agency made up of 290 young professionals, has released schedules of volunteer work for 2002.
They include interior painting and renovation work at Western Hills High School, 2144 Ferguson Road, Price Hill, on Feb. 16.
Bingo night in a seniors' community project is April 13.
We don't have a definite location for this project yet, said Zack Zitko, public relations director for the group.
Other activities include a Paint the Town project, set for June 8. Mr. Zitko said that project is also in the planning stages. He said it will include renovation work on houses.
The group plans to do interior painting and cleaning at Roberts Paideia School, 1700 Grand Ave., Price Hill, on Aug. 17.
A children's project is set for Oct. 5.
Our plans are to take children from St. Joseph Orphanage to spend a day at a farm in Harrison, Mr. Zitko said. This will include hay rides and other farm activities.
The group will participate in the St. Vincent DePaul project, helping with a clothing and food drive on Nov. 8.
Mr. Zitko said Give Back Cincinnati was formed a year ago. He said the group is always on the lookout for challenging, physical projects to which members can donate time and talent.
Our main emphasis is social volunteering, he said. We look for projects where people can get together, do community service and enjoy themselves, socially.
Last year, one of the group's first projects was painting a school in Norwood. He said it involved about 50 friends who came together to do the project.
He said about 100 members of the group did a day-long clean-up and paint-up project at Oyler Elementary School in Lower Price Hill last year. They worked with Habitat for Humanity, helping to build a house. They also worked with People Working Cooperatively renovating houses, and with the Thousand Hands Project, building a playground.
Mr. Zitko said anyone who's interested in volunteering, has ideas or is interested in sponsorship opportunities, can call 513-531-9225.
Students at Summit Country Day School, 2161 Grandin Road, Hyde Park, will sponsor the annual Chow Down on Chicken Wings day at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 to raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Cincinnati.
The chicken wings were donated by Buffalo Wild Wings in Rookwood Pavilion.
The event was started by seniors Caroline Wells, Jeff Thompson and Anne Sammarco in memory of Middle School teacher Emil Nelson, who died of leukemia last February.
