FYI

Carnegie bound: Paavo Jarvi, the new music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, will make his first trip with the CSO to Carnegie Hall on March 31, 2003, Carnegie Hall announced Wednesday in New York. The program includes Exodus by Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tuur (commissioned by Maestro Jarvi); the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D Minor, with violinist Vadim Repin; and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10. The CSO will preview the program in Music Hall on March 28-29 during the 2002-03 season.

The Pops will perform in Carnegie Hall with Erich Kunzel on April 1, 2003, in “An April Fools' Day Celebration,” starring the Flying Karamazov Brothers. Both concerts are at 8 p.m.

Although symphony management is mum, the New York visit could be a stop on the orchestra's first domestic tour with Mr. Jarvi. He is in his first season as music director. Information: (212) 247-7800 or carnegiehall.org.

Movie buzz

Ohio film scores at Sundance: Blue Car, a low-budget feature shot in Dayton last summer, was acquired for theatrical distribution by Miramax Films after its initial screening at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

“You couldn't do better than that,” said line producer Karri O'Reilly, a Dayton native and 1994 graduate of Wright State University. Ms. O'Reilly was instrumental in persuading Los Angeles-based writer/director Karen Moncreiff to make the film in Dayton. Blue Car is the story of a troubled teen-age poet who develops a close relationship with an English teacher, played by David Straithairn.
