Sony Classics buys Louiso's feature films

Moviegoers will get a chance to see Love, Liza, the feature directing debut of Cincinnati native Todd Louiso within the next year or so.

Rights to distribute the movie were picked up by Sony Pictures Classics at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where the movie debuted this week. The festival closed Saturday.

Mickey Cottrell, publicist for the film, said Sony paid nearly $2 million for the independent feature, which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a man devastated by the suicide of his wife. It was written by the star's brother, Gordy Hoffman. Oscar-winner Kathy Bates co-stars.

Mr. Cottrell said the director and producers would travel to New York this week to meet with Sony to discuss where and when the movie would be released in theaters.

Philip Seymour Hoffman also appeared in an award-winning short film, The 15-Minute Hamlet, that Mr. Louiso directed. The two met as young actors in New York.

Mr. Louiso has appeared in several films, including The Rock, Jerry Maguire and High Fidelity. He grew up in Cincinnati and attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts.
