Federated to shut two Macy's stores
Federated Department Stores Inc. said Tuesday that it will close two Macy's stores this spring in Alabama and Georgia.
Macy's stores at Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, Ala., and Augusta Mall in Augusta, Ga., are to begin liquidation sales early this spring. Both are anchor stores at their malls and Federated owns the space they occupy, spokeswoman Jean Coggan said.
The closings will affect 337 employees who may be able to transfer to jobs in other Federated stores, company officials said.
American Pie closes because of slow sales
American Pie Cafe in Symmes Township has closed because of slumping sales, the restaurant's lawyer said.
The restaurant, which featured a half-pound sirloin burger and Americana decor, struggled financially and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Lawyer Kenneth Wegner said the restaurant had difficulty in the competitive northern suburbs.
The 3,800-square-foot space at Harper's Station Plaza on Montgomery Road is available for lease, according to the retail center's leasing agent, Anderson Real Estate.
