A guide to help make your day
Going out

Sabin Convention Center, downtown, $3-$9.50. (859) 341-0346.
Ricky Skaggs: It's the bluegrass show of the year with the multiple Grammy-winner and his fast picking Kentucky Thunder band, plus a little help from opening act the Del McCoury Band. 8 p.m. today, Taft Theatre, Fifth and Sycamore Streets, downtown, $27.50-$35. 562-4949.
Art opening: The Weston Art Gallery at the Aronoff Center, nothing if not cutting edge, serves up an opening reception for two new exhibits: On the Way to Morning features charcoal drawings by Lisa Jameson and Guardians Against Ignorance with paintings by Leslie Shiels. 6-9 p.m. today, Seventh and Walnut streets, downtown. 977-4165.
At BarrelHouse: Beloved female folkie Michelle Malone invades Over-the-Rhine with her Peep Show Band and Tracy Walker as well as Jake Speed and the Freddies. 9 p.m. today, 22 E. 12th St. $10 at door. 421-2337.
Staying in
TV picks: Crimson Tide is a slickly crafted movie adventure where the fate of the world depends on the people on a wounded sub. For the top two officers (Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington), it's a tense battle of wills and words. Crimson Tide, 9 p.m., USA Network.
Silence of the Lambs is even slicker. Anthony Hopkins plays a brilliant and perverse killer; Jodie Foster is the young FBI agent who needs his help. Silence of the Lambs, 9 p.m., A&E.
Planning Ahead
24 hours out: The busy and beloved female African-American a capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock raises a whole batch of voices and maybe the roof at the Aronoff Center's Procter & Gamble Hall, 8 p.m. Saturday, $15-$25. 241-7469.
48 hours out: The Taft Museum of Art takes its chamber series on the road, hosting the Amicus Piano Trio at Christ Church Cathedral, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, 318 E. Fourth St., downtown, free. 241-0343.
A week away: Make plans now to attend a reading/demonstration from author-illustrator and kid book legend Michael Berenstain when he introduces the new Berenstain Bears and the Real Easter Eggs. 4 p.m., Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion, Norwood. 396-8960.
