MILFORD TOWNSHIP A Talawanda High School chemistry teacher was killed Saturday morning in a collision at the intersection of state routes 177 and 73.
The Butler County Sheriff's Department said Sarah Oberhauser, 31, of West College Corner, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies said Ms. Oberhauser was driving east on Route 73 at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and David Potteiger, 21, of Eaton, Ohio, was heading north on Route 177 when their vehicles collided.
Mr. Potteiger was taken to McCullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford. His condition was not released.
There were no passengers in the vehicles and both motorists were wearing seat belts, deputies said.
No charges have been filed. The accident remains under investigation.
Ms. Oberhauser, a 1994 graduate of Miami University, was hired at Talawanda High School in July 1994 and had taught there since.
Ms. Oberhauser was also a volunteer coach for Talawanda's women's basketball team.
While at Miami, she played on the women's basketball team.
In 1988, she graduated from Sheridan High School in Perry County, where she was class valedictorian.
She really related science well to girls, said Phil Cagwin, superintendent of Talawanda Schools. When she walked into a room, it brightened up. The kids will be crushed.
Jeff Winslow, chairman of the science department at Talawanda High School, said Ms. Oberhauser had a knack for relating what her students were studying with life outside the classroom.
Children who were having a hard time flocked to her. She will be greatly missed.
The divorced mother is survived by two children, Megan, 10, and Drew, 7.
