Sanders leads NKU over SIUE

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS Craig Sanders scored 17 points Thursday night as Northern Kentucky University defeated Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 90-55 in Regents Hall.
Sanders (McNicholas High School) tied a school record for consecutive games in double figures at 39. Carl Mitchell added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Norse (14-5, 10-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference).
NKU played without head coach Ken Shields, who had back surgery Wednesday and is expected to miss Saturday's game against Lewis.

NKU 67, SIU-Edwardsville 60
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS Kristin Polosky scored a career-high 23 points and Amy Mobley (Harrison High School) had 16 points and eight rebounds for Northern Kentucky (15-4, 11-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference). The Norse are ranked 11th in the NCAA Division II poll.
NKU again played without All-America forward Michelle Cottrell, who has missed four games due to a stress fracture in her right foot.
Rhode Island 70, Xavier 58
KINGSTON, R.I. Xavier (7-14 2-7 Atlantic 10) lost its eighth straight road game. Reetta Piipari led XU with 18 points and Amy Waugh had a career-high five steals.
Rhode Island raised its record to 12-8 (5-4).
