Boehner officially in race
Congressman goes for sixth re-election

HAMILTON U.S. Rep. John Boehner, still basking in the glow of the education bill's passage and President Bush's visit to Hamilton last month, filed his petition for re-election Monday at the Butler County Board of Elections.
The West Chester Republican formally kicked off his campaign Monday by visiting four locations in his reapportioned 8th Congressional District Huber Heights in Montgomery County, Fulton Farms in Miami County, the Dayton Jobs Corps Center and a Hamilton elementary school.
Before stopping at the board of elections, Mr. Boehner toured Jefferson Elementary School and spoke to a student assembly. Jefferson, an inner-city school with many students from low-income families, has made academic strides in recent years, Mr. Boehner said.
President Bush originally wanted to sign his education bill on Jan. 8 at Jefferson, but the auditorium wasn't large enough. Instead, Hamilton High School was site for the ceremony.
The Hamilton signing was top-level recognition of the role Mr. Boehner, chairman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, played in guiding the education bill through Congress.
So far, no candidates have filed petitions to challenge the 52-year-old Congressman, first elected in 1990.
Mr. Boehner has breezed through all five of his re-election bids.
