UK football hires assistant coach

Enquirer staff and news services

Gerald Carr was hired to be the running backs coach. Carr was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for Indiana last season.

He has been an offensive coach for all but one year of his career, which began full-time in 1983. He was also the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator from 1995-98.

Wesley McGriff, formerly the running backs coach, will coach defensive backs. Mark Nelson will continue in his role as special teams coordinator but will move from tight ends to defensive ends.

Chris Lancaster, who coached the defensive ends in 2001, returns to his longtime role on offense and will coach the offensive line. Graduate assistant John Schlarman will coach the tight ends and assist Lancaster with the offensive line.

In addition to his role as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, John Goodner adds the duties of recruiting coordinator.
