Residents weigh in on Wharf at Symmes

        SYMMES TOWNSHIP — Three developers who want to convert a 340-acre Camp Dennison gravel pit into an upscale community will hear residents' concerns tonight.

        Darrell Leibson and Tim and Greg Hensley will officially unveil their $200 million plans for The Wharf at Symmes — including up to 600 homes valued at $300,000 to $1 million along Ohio 126.

        Residents' comments will help the developers determine whether the project is feasible.

        The session begins at 7 p.m. in the township building, 9323 Union Cemetery Road. It is being conducted by township officials and staff members.

        The developers' biggest challenge will be guaranteeing water and sewer for the property, which is zoned for heavy industry and requires a “community unit plan” before construction can begin.

        About 50 members of the Camp Dennison Civic Club already are working to convince township and county officials that the development would threaten the groundwater, crowd surrounding roads and burden the Indian Hill School District.

        They are hiring a lawyer to help stop the project.

        The developers must submit an application to the Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission by Feb. 21. The county planning commission is expected to review the developers' proposal April 4.

        A public hearing before the Symmes Township Zoning Commission is tentatively set for April 17.
