Boy skier 'serious' after hitting tree
Skull was fractured in collision

The Cincinnati Enquirer
A 14-year-old Edgewood boy was upgraded to serious condition Friday, a day after striking a tree while skiing at Perfect North resort in Lawrenceburg, Ind.
Kevin Guilfoyle, one of six children of noted Northern Kentucky attorney and political figure Mark Guilfoyle, was initially listed in critical condition at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
Skiing with family members at 9:30 p.m., Kevin hit his head, suffering a fracture above his left ear, Mr. Guilfoyle said Friday.
Sue Dudgeon, an emergency medical technician, said Kevin was unconscious and bleeding from his nose and ear.
Because of the head trauma, we went with Air Care straight to Children's, Ms. Dudgeon said.
The three older kids were at Perfect North with my wife skiing when Kevin ran into the tree, Mr. Guilfoyle said. She called me on the cell phone ... I'll tell you, it was a long drive to Children's Hospital last night.
Mr. Guilfoyle said two CAT scans on Friday revealed no additional swelling of the brain, and that Mark was responsive.
A woman who answered the phone Friday at Perfect North said the resort would not give information about the incident.
Prior to this ski season, a private ambulance service served Perfect North, but it has since gone out of business, said Wesley Holt, captain of Lawrenceburg Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Ms. Dudgeon said that on a typical 3-11 p.m. shift, EMS makes about three runs to Perfect North on weeknights, five or six on weekends. Most, she said, are for typical skiing injuries: dislocated shoulders and leg and back injuries.
