Flags show pride of Parkview Hts.

SPRINGFIELD TWP. — We've heard a lot about a renewed sense of community and patriotism recently, and Parkview Heights demonstrates them.

People in this Hamilton County subdivision (one of Finneytown's oldest) collected money to buy American flags and attached them to telephone poles.

It all started on Labor Day, when a subdivision resident and real estate agent put small flags in neighbors' yards.

“It was beautifully patriotic and most were still there on Sept. 11,” resident Lisa Siegel said. “Our civic association decided to collect donations and use some of the money in our account to purchase flags for every telephone pole in our neighborhood.”

Joe Meyer, who owns a construction company, challenged his neighbors to help.

“We passed out fliers and the community rallied around the idea,” resident Frank Doyle said. “It's a neat reaction. We did it for ourselves as much as anybody. It gives us a good feeling as we drive down the street.”

        Ms. Siegel is proud.

“Several residents spent a Saturday mounting the flags, and our streets look great,” she said. “Our small neighborhood is only five streets and people know everyone.”

Mr. Doyle said the goal was to show support for our country.

“What better way to do that than to put up flags?” he said. “It makes you proud to be an American.”
