Ohio National Guard seeks new armory site
The Associated Press
DELAWARE, Ohio Two central Ohio cities are competing to become the site of an Ohio National Guard armory and community recreation center.
The Guard wants to build the training center by 2007 in either Delaware or Marysville and has heard presentations from both.
The service says its new training centers will share about three-quarters of their space with the public for such uses as education, recreation and emergency shelter.
The project would be planned and financed by federal, state and local governments. The community would be able to offset some of the costs of building a community recreation center.
The Guard wants to replace its decades-old armory in Delaware. Leaders of the city have offered 35 acres reserved for park use.
The Guard also has viewed several possible locations in Marysville, 27 miles northwest of Columbus.
