Big Ten's Iowa visits MU Sept. 7
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Miami RedHawks will play host to Iowa in their 2002 home opener Sept.7,the first time a Big Ten football team will have visited Oxford. The Hawkeyes thumped Miami 44-19 last season in Iowa City.
MU plays at Marshall, four-time defending Mid-American Conference East Division champion, for a nationally televised (ESPN) game Tuesday, Nov.12.
Six 2001 bowl teams, three nationally ranked teams, eight MAC games and the 107th Victory Bell matchup vs. Cincinnati also highlight Miami's schedule. Miami opens the season Aug.31 at North Carolina, which is coming off a 9-3 season that included a 16-10 victory over Auburn in the Peach Bowl. The RedHawks last played the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill to open the 1998 season, upsetting then-No.12-ranked North Carolina 13-10.
On Sept.14, Miami plays at defending Southeastern Conference champion Louisiana State. The Tigers, who finished 9-3 and were ranked No.7 by the Associated Press last season, won last year's Sugar Bowl 47-34 over Illinois.
Besides Iowa, Miami's home games are against MAC foes Kent State, Northern Illinois, archrival Ohio and league newcomer Central Florida.
