Ideveter wins Valdale at Turfway to extend streak
The Cincinnati Enquirer and wire reports
Ideveter extended her win streak to four with a gate-to-wire 1 1/4-length victory in the Valdale Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Saturday at Turfway Park.
Leading rider Greta Kuntzweiler won her second race on a day when female jockeys won six of the 12 races on the card. Art Fair, winner of the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes, rallied for second. Raise A Roar was third. Emeraldforajudge, the 9-5 favorite, finished fifth in the field of 10.
Ideveter, who probably will make her next start in the $150,000 Bourbonette Stakes on the undercard of the March 23 Lane's End Spiral Stakes, improved her record to 4-0-0 in eight starts and $81,465 in earnings for owners David Goldman and Larry Moore, et al, and trainer William Bradley.
Earlier Saturday, Cincinnatian Theresa McArthur's Salutee set a track record for 5 furlongs in :56.93, eclipsing the previous mark of :57.73 set by Jimmy Jones on Jan.5.
JOHANNESBURG PLANS: Michael Tabor's undefeated Johannesburg (7-for-7) raced just once in the United States last year, but his victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Belmont Park was enough for the Irish-based colt to earn an Eclipse Award last week as 2-year-old colt champion.
Johannesburg apparently will have just one prep race before the May 4 Ketnucky Derby. Tabor said that race will be the 7-furlong Gladness Stakes on grass at Ireland's The Curragh on April 6. Tabor won the 1995 Kentucky Derby with Thunder Gulch.
