Smith, Ball State cruise past Miami

        MUNCIE, Ind. — Theron Smith had 18 points and 12 rebounds as Ball State clinched at least a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division title with a 74-58 victory over Miami on Saturday night.

        Smith got his 17th double-double of the season and his 11th in the last 15 games. Patrick Jackson added 17 points — 12 on 3-pointers — for Ball State (18-9, 11-5). Chris Williams had 14 points and Robert Owens 11.

        Chester Mason led Miami (11-16, 8-8) with 14 points and Juby Johnson had 12.

        The Cardinals closed the first half with a 16-3 run to take a 38-25 lead. They increased their lead to 19 points midway through the second half after a 13-2 run.
