Road numbers odd mix

The Cincinnati Enquirer
QUESTION: On Fields Ertel Road, west of Interstate 71 and past Snider Road, some of the houses are numbered in the 8000 range from west to east. Others are numbered in the 5000 to 6000 range from east to west. What's the story? -- R. Thomas Ost, Symmes Township
ANSWER: The centerline of Fields Ertel Road is also a county line, notes Tom Langenbrunner of the Hamilton County Engineer's office. The south side of Fields Ertel is within Hamilton County; the north side is Warren County east of Butler-Warren Road and Butler County west of Butler-Warren Road.
Address numbers within Hamilton County are determined by the Hamilton County Planning and Zoning Department. Similar departments in the other two counties assign numbers to addresses.
Q: The traffic light on Mack Road in front of Mercy Hospital in Fairfield turns to red immediately when one car is leaving the hospital. Shouldn't there be a delay? -- Charles Teufel, Fairfield
A: This signal is operating properly, said John Belanger, Fairfield's traffic analyst. Motorists exiting the hospital and tripping the pavement sensor must wait for the Mack Road green light sequence to end before the light will change. During non-peak traffic hours that wait is less than 20 seconds, while it is much longer during rush hour, he said.
Q: Why was the Ronald Reagan Highway named after President Reagan? -- Nancy Back, Union Township, Clermont County
A: This question comes up now and again. Hamilton County commissioners agreed to add Mr. Reagan's name to the highway in 1993 and paid for sign changes with $15,000 in private donations.
Hamilton County Commissioner John Dowlin, who remains in office, suggested the name.
When Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway became a state highway Ohio 126 in 1997, the name officially was changed to Ohio 126, Ronald Reagan Highway.
