River site under study
Developers join forces for contract

COVINGTON Two of northern Kentucky's largest developers, applying as one umbrella company, were awarded rights Tuesday to develop a marketing feasibility study for the last remaining undeveloped land on Covington's riverfront.
City commissioners and the mayor agreed 4-1 to give Riverfront West Associates, made up of representatives from Carroll Properties and Corporex, the next six months for the study with the ability to extend by three months if needed.
City Manager Greg Jarvis said that this does not mean Riverfront West Associates will develop the land, 15 acres that run east from the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge to The Madison luxury condominium high-rise at Madison Avenue and RiverCenter Boulevard, but that the city will not work with any other developer during that time.
The two companies involved have done some of the most significant development in northern Kentucky, Mr. Jarvis said.
Corporex has developed many of the buildings along the riverfront and Carroll Properties is headed by Jerry Carroll, who developed the Kentucky Speedway.
Covington advertised a Request For Qualifications three weeks ago and received three responses, including Riverfront West Associates. The other two developers were Al Neyer, Inc. and Miller-Valentine Group, according to Mr. Jarvis.
I don't support this process, said commissioner John Spence, the one vote against the ordinance. We only advertised locally and we only got local firms. The goal is laudable but the process is flawed.
