Michael Ray Gregory of Ramey Lane is being held on an outstanding arrest warrant issued in July for a parole violation in Baton Rouge, La., where he was convicted of robbery.
Additional charges of assaulting a federal officer and being a felon in possession of a firearm are pending against Mr. Gregory, according to the FBI.
Agents were attempting to execute a federal search warrant at Mr. Gregory's apartment shortly after 5 p.m. Friday when someone inside the residence fired a shot.
No one was injured, but police evacuated the three-story apartment building. A hostage negotiator was called in, and Mr. Gregory surrendered at 3 a.m. Saturday.
Agents were looking for evidence relating to eight bank robberies in Tristate suburbs since September. The robberies:
Sept. 28: Firstar Bank, Batavia.
Oct 17: Provident Bank, Symmes Township.
Oct. 25: Provident Bank, Kenwood.
Dec. 12: Key Bank, Anderson Township.
Dec. 18: Fifth Third Bank, Fairfield.
Jan. 8: Firstar Bank, Batavia.
Jan. 23: Fifth Third Bank, Edgewood.
Feb. 6; Provident Bank; West Chester.
In each robbery, the suspect was described as wearing a fake mustache and beard.
According to the search warrant, agents were looking for a fake beard, fake mustache and other items relating to the robberies, including documentation of the purchase of a 1980 Buick.
The apparent get-away vehicle used in the Jan. 23 Edgewood robbery a 1980 Buick exploded in flames on a dead-end residential street a few miles from the bank. At the time, police said the blaze was possibly a diversionary tactic used by the robber.
