UK honors Loretta Lynn
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON Loretta Lynn, whose country music reflected her eastern Kentucky childhood, was awarded an honorary doctor of arts degree Saturday from the University of Kentucky.
Ms. Lynn, who will turn 67 next month, was unable to attend Saturday's ceremony because of an illness, university officials said. Her brother, Herman Webb, of Butcher Hollow, Ky., accepted the honor on her behalf.
James Holsinger, Jr., UK's senior vice president and the chancellor of the UK Medical Center, called Ms. Lynn a traveling ambassador for both the entertainment world and the state of Kentucky.
