Ohio seeking extradition of sexual predator
Judge sets action deadline for man also facing charges in Kentucky

COVINGTON Ohio is seeking to extradite suspected serial child molester Clyde Herald.
Kenton County District Judge Frank Trusty on Tuesday gave Ohio officials until May 27 to complete the process of formally extraditing the 48-year-old. Even if Ohio fails to meet that deadline, Mr. Herald will continue to be held in the Kenton County Detention Center on various charges in Kentucky.
Mr. Herald, of downtown Cincinnati, is a registered sexual predator in Ohio. His criminal record dates to a 1978 public indecency conviction.
He has a 1995 conviction for peering up a woman's skirt with a compact mirror at Kenwood Towne Centre. In spring 1996, he was convicted of a sex offense involving a 5-year-old girl he accosted at Tri-County Mall. The next year, while on probation, he was observed on a store security camera following another girl around a store. His probation was terminated, he was sent to prison on the original charge and he was found to be a sexual predator. Mr. Herald also had been sentenced to six months in jail for not registering as a sexual offender.
Law enforcement officials from both sides of the river have said they intend to prosecute Mr. Herald vigorously. Covington police say a store video shows Mr. Herald exposing himself to a girl on Jan. 24 in a Value City Department Store in Covington's Latonia neighborhood.
In Ohio, he is charged with two counts of gross sexual imposition, felonious assault, endangering children and two counts of the less serious charge of menacing by stalking. The charges come for various alleged incidents, usually involving stalking girls in department stores.
In Kentucky, he is charged with the felony crime of failing to register as a sex offender and some lesser misdemeanor charges.
