Enquirer Page Two power rankings
Enquirer staff and news services
Thumbs Up: 1. Roger Bacon and Winton Woods. The two schools' impressive postseason runs to Ohio state title games shouldn't be lost in all the hoopla surrounding the NCAA Tournament and the Bob Huggins saga. Who said this town was a high school football hotbed anyway?
2. Drew Bledsoe. This is just great! He'd rather hold a clipboard in New England than start for our men. Hey, at least Elvis Grbac decided to retire instead of playing for our men.
3. Bob Huggins. Listen, who can blame the guy for considering an offer to go home. Stop bad-mouthing him. Would we like a few more Sweet 16 or Elite Eight appearances? You bet. But for all those who want to rip him, get a media guide and check the records of Tony Yates and Ed Badger, Huggins' predecessors.
4. Don Zimmer. Isn't it enough that the Cincinnati baseball treasure wins a World Series title about every other year? Now he's really hit the big time. Ol' Zimm's got a national commercial gig. Hey, just because the product is Preparation H doesn't mean they aren't paying him.
5. The NBA. Man, there's only what, 12-14 more games left in the regular season? Summer can't be far behind.
Thumbs down
1. The World Figure Skating Championships. The World Figure Skating Championships? Didn't we just have the Olympics, for crying out loud? Why would they do that?
2. Free throws. Is it just us or would you rather have any area girls high school basketball player at the line over any player in the NCAA Tournament? Boy, it's not that difficult. Note to Coach K Make sure your McDonald's All-Americans put in some work at the line.
3. Indiana and Kent State. Hey, we're not above jumping on the ol' bandwagon. Besides, if this is such a college basketball town we need someone to root for in late March.
4. Bob Boone. Atta boy Bob, way to announce that Opening Day lineup. And gee, you didn't mention making changes to said lineup until the third paragraph of the story! Here's our prediction for the first lineup changes Game 2, Wednesday, April 3.
5. My &Ä?%&!$* bracket!
