Dad of 12 fights to have sex
The Associated Press
LOUISVILLE A man who prosecutors say has fathered a dozen children by 11 women and shirked child support obligations is asking a judge to throw out a clause in his plea agreement that prohibits him from ever having sex again.
Luther Crawford, 49, of Louisville, says he thought the abstinence agreement was just a joke. His lawyer says it violates Mr. Crawford's constitutional rights and can't be enforced.
Jefferson Circuit Judge Tom McDonald said he will decide whether the no-sex clause will remain on May 13, when Mr. Crawford is scheduled to be sentenced.
Mr. Crawford owes $33,000 in support for two of his children and is in jail in another child-support case pending in district court in which he owes $21,000.
On March 12, he pleaded guilty to two counts of flagrant nonsupport, charges that carry up to five years each behind bars. The plea agreement calls for a one-year sentence, but Mr. Crawford could be placed on probation or ordered to pay restitution.
Mr. Crawford needs to swear off sex because he can't work and make money to support his children, Prosecutor Allan Cobb said.
By all accounts, Mr. Crawford is disabled, the plea agreement signed by Mr. Cobb, Mr. Crawford and public defender Isaac Beckley states. Mr. Crawford is blind in one eye, nearly blind in the other and takes medication for a heart problem and high blood pressure.
