Ky. House alters legislators' retirement plan
By Mark R. Chellgren
The Associated Press
FRANKFORT The House swiftly and without discussion passed a bill Thursday that could improve the retirement benefits available to legislators.
The bill would base the retirement pay on the high three years of a salary for both judges and legislators, who are in the same retirement program.
Judges get a salary, but legislators do not. They are paid for each day they spend on legislative business, which is $163.56 for most lawmakers this year.
The sponsor of the provision said he could not explain how legislative salary calculations would change.
Rep. Gross Lindsay, D-Henderson, said the retirement system probably would not have to change its procedures.
