A police officer in his cruiser at the crash scene also suffered injuries when his cruiser was hit from behind.
A male driver was eastbound in a Chevrolet AstroVan about 7:30 p.m. when the vehicle crossed the median and struck a westbound Chevrolet Blazer, police said. The AstroVan went airborne over a guardrail and ended up on its top in a ditch near the westbound entrance ramp from Hamilton Avenue.
Police said the driver of the van was able to crawl out the back door and get to a nearby gas station, where he called 911. He was transported to Mercy Franciscan Hospita-Mount Airy, where he was being treated for injuries late Thursday.
Two people in the Blazer were transported to University Hospital. Stacey Camp, 36, was in fair condition late Thursday. Robin Camp, 40, was in good condition. Their addresses were not immediately available.
A Mount Healthy police officer who was working a traffic post at the accident scene was injured when his cruiser was rear-ended on the entrance ramp from Hamilton Avenue. He was transported to Mercy Franciscan Hospital-Mount Airy. His name and condition were not available.
