Coyotes win; Roy ejected
Canadiens beat Pens in overtime

PHOENIX — Rookie Krystofer Kolanos scored the game-winner on a penalty shot 8:20 into the third period, enraging Patrick Roy so much that the Colorado goalie was ejected, and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Avalanche 5-3 Saturday night.
Phoenix remained one point ahead of St. Louis for sixth in the Western Conference with the win, while the defending Stanley Cup champions remained second, a point ahead of idle Chicago.
Ladislav Nagy, Andrei Nazarov, Brian Savage and Daymond Langkow also scored for the Coyotes. Langkow's goal was an empty-netter with 29 seconds to go after the Avs pulled David Aebischer, Roy's replacement.
After Kolanos gave Phoenix a 4-3 lead, Roy smashed his stick against a goal post, splintering it, and then threw a piece at Kolanos, who beat him high on the glove side. Roy then charged referee Dan Marouelli, drawing 10-minute misconduct and game misconduct penalties.
Roy was upset that the penalty shot was awarded after officials ruled he threw his stick across the crease to stop Kolanos from scoring.
Bryan Muir, Mike Keane and Brad Larsen scored for the Avalanche, who lost for the fourth time in their last five games.

• Hurricanes 2, Bruins 0, at Boston — Arturs Irbe got his third shutout this season, and Jeff O'Neill had a power-play goal as Carolina ended Boston's six-game winning streak.
The Hurricanes scored the winner at the 6:49 of the second period. Sami Kapanen fed O'Neill with a crossing pass, and he beat Byron Dafoe. Former Cincinnati Cyclone Erik Cole added an empty-net goal with 46 seconds left.
• Canadiens 2, Pens 1, OT, at Montreal — Oleg Petrov scored 1:32 into overtime as Montreal kept pace with Washington in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
• Capitals 4, Islanders 2, at Washington — The Caps' Colin Forbes broke a tie on a fluke goal with 9:54 remaining.
• Blues 4, Predators 2, at Nashville, Tenn. — Pavol Demitra and Scott Mellanby had a goal and an assist each for St. Louis.
• Devils 3, Maple Leafs 1, at Toronto — Martin Brodeur made 32 saves and Bobby Holik scored and had an assist.
• Wings 4, Thrashers 1, at Detroit — Brett Hull scored two goals and Igor Larionov added three assists. Three of Detroit's goals came on the power play, including one by former Cincinnati Mighty Duck Jason Williams.
• Rangers 4, Panthers 2, at Sunrise, Fla. — Eric Lindros scored two third-period goals and Pavel Bure added a goal and two assists against his old team.
• Senators 3, Lightning 1, at Ottawa — Marian Hossa scored the game-winner and set up Radek Bonk for the insurance goal.
